🍎 This Week’s Quick Bytes
I curated an exhibit titled “Spectrum of Solitude: Explorations in Light and Shadow” in partnership with Makersplace. It features 10 works by 8 photographers: Alan Schaller, Michael Nguyen, Ruslan Bolgov, Luisa Torregrosa, Naoki Kimura, Mani Shahzadeh, Hulki Okan Tabak, and Manual W. Stepan. This exhibit showcases the emotive power of monochromatic aesthetics, revealing vibrant facets of our experience within shades of black, white, and gray.
Soon you’ll be able to mint open editions (OE) on Rarible. It’s currently whitelist only as they’re rolling the new feature out slowly. And when I chatted with co-founder, Alex Salnikov, he confirmed that creators will deploy their own contract to use this feature. Unfortunately, if you previously deployed a contract on Rarible (like me) it will not support this new capability. So you’ll have to deploy a new one.
How much money do artists really make? In a recent post, Trevor Jones shared an informative video by CAI. There are well over 1 million artists in the world and stats show that 85% of them make $0 - $25K/year. Watch the video and share your thoughts with Trevor.
zeroone is a new NFT platform that launched on Avalanche (AVAX), an EVM compatible L1, that puts art and artists at the forefront of the collecting experience. Artists mint for free. Collectors collect for free. It has a clean UI with a seamless wallet integration.
I contributed an artwork for MOCA Fundraiser 2023. They’ve created the largest collaboration in crypto art history with a dynamic NFT (DNFT). It’s fully interactive and you can play with the interactive version here. They’re selling the mosaic for .0142069 ETH (~$25). And there’s more about the future of MOCA and the DNFT in this thread here.
I submitted my speaker application for NFT NYC 2024. The topic is “Marketing Isn’t Evil: Why Every Artist is a Marketer” and will be an extension of the article I wrote previously.
In a recent post, Nick Huber (@sweatystartup) wrote his thoughts about entrepreneurship culture in America. In the post he explains it's not all about unicorns and tech dreams. Real success comes from doing common things uncommonly well, taking risks wisely, and mastering the art of leading others. Start small, build momentum, then change the world with something BIG
NFT Archeologist, Adam McBride, asks the question, “Is FriendTech a Ponzi or Revolutionary?” and wrote short thread about the success and failures of social tokens to help you decide.
Jason Chambers shared a new collectible he called an ACEO (Art Card, Editions, & Originals). As an OG sports card collector, I thought this concept was cool. I’ve made some art cards over the years. And now I’m feeling inspired by Jason’s post.
In a recent thread, 6529 wrote about the fleeting nature of life, urging readers to cherish every moment. Reflecting on personal experiences and the unpredictability of events like the COVID-19 pandemic, the author encourages viewing special moments as limited "tickets" to be fully enjoyed. The thread also underscores the importance of finding career fulfillment and making the most of our short lives.
I donated this artwork to the Museum of Crypto Art 2023 Fundraiser. If you've purchased MOCA's NFT, you'll be able to use Manifold's burn-to-redeem mechanism to mint the open edition of my artwork for free. This offer closes when MOCA's fundraiser ends.
I came across this post by Benxit who pleaded with NFT project founders who release comic books to stop using token-gated PDFs. They represent a company, Macroverse, who can package them better. Here’s a product demo to give you an idea of what they do. I thought I’d share it here in case any readers are thinking of token-gating PDFs. This might be a resource to reach out to.
I hope I added value to your day. ☀️
