Creator,
I wanted to share something personal with you. Lately, I've been grappling with the challenges of maintaining a presence on the new alternative Twitter platforms. It seems like every time I find a platform that promises more control, a new one pops up. Can you relate?
A while back, I experienced the loss of access to my 15K followers on Twitter. It was a wake-up call for me. I realized that relying solely on a single platform can be risky. It made me question the stability of my connection with my audience and the control I had over my own creative journey. And I know I'm not alone in feeling this way.
In the midst of all these uncertainties, Elon Musk's continued tinkering with Twitter has only emphasized the need for artists like us to explore other channels and build a stronger bond with our audience. That's why I wanted to share one of the strategy I've found incredibly valuable in navigating these challenges: building and nurturing an email list.
An email list is like having a direct line to your fans, away from the uncertainties and limitations of social media platforms. It's a place where you can cultivate a genuine connection and engage with your audience on a deeper level. Remember, my goal here is to share what has worked for me and what could potentially work for you too.
When I lost access to my Twitter followers, I made a commitment to connect with my audience through other channels. Building an email list became a priority for me. Why? Because I realized that relying solely on a single platform was risky and that having control over my messaging and reach was essential.
Through newsletters, I can share exclusive updates, behind-the-scenes stories, and even sneak peeks into my creative process. It's like having a personal conversation with each and every one of you. Plus, it's a way for us to stay connected even if we find ourselves transitioning to new platforms.
Here's the thing about email: it's a mostly stable and reliable means of communication. People tend to keep the same email addresses for years, if not decades. Unlike social media platforms that come and go, email provides a sense of continuity and permanence. It ensures that our connection remains strong even in the face of platform changes and uncertainties.
So, in the ever-changing landscape of social media and the uncertainties surrounding platforms like Twitter, take control of your artistic journey. Build a solid foundation by focusing on what truly matters – connecting with our audience in a meaningful and lasting way. Building an email list and sending newsletters can be your secret weapon, and I encourage you to explore this strategy.
Let's navigate these uncertainties, embrace the power of email lists and newsletters, and create a stronger bond with our audience. Because when we have a direct line to those who appreciate our art, we can withstand any platform changes that come our way.
Yours creatively,
Eric

Speaking of navigating uncertain times at Twitter. Some of you may know there are dozens and dozens of web3 social media products all promising connection with your audience. I read somewhere there were 53 of them. Of the ones that are working to be Twitter’s competitor, I was exploring Blue Sky, Mastadon, Nostr, and Farcaster. But that’s too many for me to keep track of while maintaining an honest connection with you. So through a proprietary selection process, I have decided to focus building on Warpcast (the Farcaster client).
See what I did there. 😎
